\nNOTE: <\/strong>This pattern is worked mainly from charts, very few written directions are given.<\/p>\n

Materials required:<\/strong> one pair of size 1.50 mm knitting needles; 70 metres No 10 or No 12 crochet cotton in Main colour and 50 metres No 10 or No 12 crochet cotton in contrast colour, 2 stitch holders or safety pins.<\/p>\n

Finished size of sweater:
\nNeck to hem \u2013<\/strong> 10 cm\/4-inches; sleeve seam \u2013<\/strong> 8.5 cm\/3\u00bd-inches; Chest \u2013<\/strong> 7.5 cm\/3-inches across.<\/p>\n

Gauge –<\/strong> worked over pattern: 6 rows and 5 stitches = 1 cm<\/p>\n

Sanquhar knitting originated in the town of Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The stitch patterns were developed using natural wool colours, usually black and white and were originally used to knit socks and gloves. Many of the traditional Sanquhar patterns were knit in a chequerboard design, however a small number formed an all-over design, such as this one known as The Prince of Wales, which originated around 1870-71.
