These can be made as bedsocks or as slippers by adding a cork sole to the base after making up the socks.<\/p>\n

Materials required:<\/strong> size 19 needles, 12 metres 1-ply yarn, small length thin cord for ties.
\n
\nThe slippers are worked in garter stitch (every row knit) throughout.<\/p>\n

Abbreviations:<\/strong> st – <\/strong>stitch; k – <\/strong>knit; gst – <\/strong>garter stitch (every row k); k2tog – <\/strong>knit next 2 sts together to make 1 stitch; psso – <\/strong>pass slipped stitch over stitch just knitted; ( ) –<\/strong> repeat instructions between brackets; inc –<\/strong> increase by working twice into next st to make 2 sts.<\/p>\n

Upper <\/strong>(Make 2 alike)
\nStart at toe end. Cast on 2 sts.
\nRow 1:<\/strong> k
\nRow 2:<\/strong> inc in both sts. (4 sts)
\nRow 3:<\/strong> k
\nRow 4:<\/strong> inc in 1st st, k 2, inc in last st. (6 sts)
\nRow 5:<\/strong> k
\nRow 6:<\/strong> inc in 1st st, k 4, inc in last st. (8 sts)
\nRows 7-10:<\/strong> k
\nRow 11: <\/strong>k 3, cast off 2 sts, k 2.
\nWork on last 3 sts only:<\/em><\/strong>
\nRows 12-28: <\/strong>k
\nCast off.
\nRejoin wool to 3 sts left on needle:<\/em><\/strong>
\nRows 12-28: <\/strong>k
\nCast off.<\/p>\n

Sole <\/strong>(Make 2 alike, but reverse one when sewing up so shape of foot is different on each giving a left and right foot)
\nCast on 4 sts.
\nRows 1-8:<\/strong> k
\nRow 9:<\/strong> inc in 1st st, k 3. (5 sts)
\nRows 10-16:<\/strong> k
\nRow 17:<\/strong> k2tog, k 1, k2tog. (3 sts)
\nRow 18: <\/strong>k
\nRow 19: <\/strong>sl 1, k2tog, psso. (1 st)
\nFasten off.<\/p>\n

To make up:<\/strong>
\nJoin centre back seam of upper. Sew soles onto upper. Run a line of cord around top of foot opening from centre front and tie in a bow. Cut out cork soles and stick to sole if required.<\/p>\n
