Kissing boughs evolved over time, but the basic shape remained the same. This pattern gives the basic kissing bough structure, which is suitable for any era from Medieval to modern, depending on how it is decorated.
The pattern is written using UK terms
Ability Level: Intermediate to Exprienced
NOTE: Although the crochet pattern is not complicated, it is very fiddly to work in this scale, so this project is more suited to someone with experience of miniature crochet work.
0.60 mm and 0.75 mm crochet hooks; 100 metres size 80 crochet cotton in dark green; 50 metres size 80 crochet cotton in variegated or lighter green; 30 cm x 2mm wide red silk ribbon; 2 x metal plant rings about 3 cm/1¼-inches diameter; 30-60 cm/12 to 24-inch length of brown (or green) florist tape; sewing needle, optional – cocktail stick, miniature apples or red beads to represent berries.
Note: The Ivy and Fir crochet garlands may be replaced by tinsel pipe cleaners or tinsel rope (widely sold by dolls house shops). If this is used then glue will also be required to fix the tinsel to the frame. Small paper leaves or red glass beads may be added to give texture to the kissing bough. Silk ribbon, florist tape and plant rings will be required as shown above.
Approximate finished size: 4 cm/1½-inches tall x 3 cm/1¼-inches across (excluding hanging loop and trailing ribbons)
Gauge/Tension – This is not important for this project, as the decoration can be any size.
Pattern price £1.50 (NOTE: EU VAT or other digital taxes will be added to price where applicable)
