Increasing in the middle of a row

Sometimes a pattern may call for increases in the middle of a row, When the pattern is garter stitch (every row knit), the increase shown below is the simplest method to use:

step 1
knit into front of stitch

when first stitch of increase completed

Knit into the back of the same stitch

Any extra bumps on the stitches will not show up in the garter stitch pattern. If increasing in the middle of a row of stocking stitch then other types of increase should be used, such as the invisible increases covered in this post.
