Ageing and adding interest to knitting

If you wish to add a little more realism to your dolls house knitting, clothes can be made to look
older by adding patches or darns. This is also very useful when trying to create a war time scene when rationing meant clothes needed to last much longer.

The socks shown above had small darns added to the outside of the socks, before the seams were sewn up. It is much easier to add darns to flat pieces of knitting before the garments are sewn up. Use strongly contrasting sewing thread to give a more realistic darn.

Patches could also be added to elbows of jumpers and cardigans.
