The new football (soccer) season

August each year sees thousands of football fans up and down the country preparing for the new season. All have high expectations of their team. The season for many years started on the same day for all clubs. In 1992 the Premier League was formed and this season that league starts on the 16th August with the Football Leagues 72 clubs kicking off a week earlier on the 9th.
In Scotland the non-Premier clubs are already underway with their top division also starting on 9th August.

For many years fathers and sons went to their local club dressed in a knitted hat and scarf in their teams colours Mum was often the supplier of these items, knitting them at home. Why not add a football theme to you dolls house with Mum getting the scarves and hats ready for the first match? Football hats and scarves are available in many colour schemes from our web shop.

Then in 1978 things began to change when Liverpool used a shirt sponsor for the first time. Now company and other names are seen on all football shirts. The latest big deal is reputed to be worth £50m ($100m) for a five-year deal with one of the top Premier League teams. How things have changed.

The football itself.
There are rules laid down that govern the construction, weight and materials to be used for a ball. The early footballs were made of leather with an air bladder inside (original a pigs bladder but by the early 1900 a rubber bladder was used) all tied together with a lace. The nature of the leather meant it absorbed water readily and the heavy stitching meant occasional injury to the players. The modern footballs we see on our TV’s are made of leather or more likely light weight plastic from 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons making 32 panels in all. There are variations on this with sometimes a smaller number of panels used. We can supply a 1:12th scale football rug kit that would look great in a dolls house child or boys bedroom.

Competitions
Invariably football demands a winner, whether this is to win the league over the course of a season or a trophy in a knockout competition. For your winning team we can supply a 1:12th scale cup for display in your dolls house and the ribbons in your team’s colours to tie on it.
