Will there be an Advent Calendar this year?

At the beginning of the year, when we took down our free 2019 Advent calendar we, like everyone else had no idea what 2020 had in store for us all. During the height of the pandemic from April to June we offered free projects that we hoped people could make from items around the house.
Naturally everyone hopes there will not be a ‘second wave’ of the virus that will result in national lock downs or indeed local ones either.

With the future still uncertain we had to make a decision on whether to offer a free 2020 Advent calendar. We are personally aware of the concerns and difficulties some may have in obtaining necessities, let alone knitting or crochet supplies. But we have found that the growth of internet mail order has helped us and hopefully others tremendously.
Every year since the first one in 2009 we have received encouraging feedback and photos of your lovely projects. Added to that, the enquiries about this year’s offering we have received, it has convinced us that the benefits of offering the project far outweigh the concerns.

So, we have decided that, after full consideration of current issues:

There will be a 2020 Advent Calendar!

As usual more on the nature of the project and materials required will be made available later on this blog, but still in plenty of time before the calendar starts.

Since 2016 the Advent Calendar has been offered in 1:12th and 1:6th scale variations and this will continue this year.

Many people also join in our Knit-A-Long (KAL) on Ravelry, where a community of like minded people share and encourage each other throughout the year, as well as during the Advent Calendar project. Ravelry is run by an independent group and is not affiliated to us in any way.

Details, should you wish to join Ravelry are given here. Remember Ravelry membership is free and you can leave at any time.

At the time of posting this, the project has been designed and is being tested.

Covid allowing, the project will be on time to start on 1st December as usual.
