As promised last week, here is your free practice pattern, ready for the 2020 Buttercup Miniatures Advent Calendar. To access the pdf pattern click the link at the base of this article. The actual Advent Calendar pattern will be available in both 1:12th scale and 1:6th scale, but will only be available in English, the pattern will be written – no charts.
As usual the item will be loosely linked to Christmas/Winter, but not religious, so everyone can join in. This years theme is Aran knitting for a male doll. In order to help people who are not confident Aran knitters we have designed a small pattern which can be made into a dolls cushion (instructions are given for both 1:12th scale and 1:6th scale) or if you prefer to practice in larger size – a Christmas tree decoration.

Tree decoration/miniature cushion pattern
Ability Level: Intermediate
This can be worked with any size needle and yarn to suit your requirements. Photo shows ornament worked with 2.00 mm needles and 3-ply yarn.
This hanging ornament is designed with a plain back, if you wish to work patterns on both sides please note you may require extra yarn. This is designed as a practice piece for working the cable stitches required in this years Buttercup Miniatures Advent Calendar. This may also be used as a 1:6th scale cushion or a 1:12th scale cushion (omit hanging loop and see materials guide)
Materials required for each ornament: Any size yarn and needles may be used to make this decoration, but for a 1:6th scale cushion use 2.00 mm knitting needles with approximately 55 yards/50 metres 3-ply/light fingering yarn and for 1:12th scale use 1.00 mm knitting needles with 1-ply yarn; cable needle (if you cannot find a miniature cable needle see here); small amount of polyester stuffing; sewing needle.
Finished sizes of cushion after dressing/blocking:
Using size 2.00 mm knitting needles and 3-ply yarn 2½-inches/6.5 cm square
Using size 19 (1.00 mm/US 00000) knitting needles and 1-ply yarn 1-inch/25 cm square
Gauge: This is not important, as this can be any size
