Note: You will need to refer back to this page for materials, abbreviations, sizing and pattern notes, as these will not be given each day.
This year we have decided once again to have an Advent Calendar for knitters and will be featuring a knitting pattern which will make a skirt for a female doll in 1:6th scale, or should you prefer the same pattern may be used to make a skirt in 1:12th scale. The theme of the calendar this year is two colour knitting. The photo of the design will be added tomorrow with the first part of the pattern
As usual this will not have a religious theme, although Christmas/Winter based, so everyone can take part.
Each morning a new part of the Advent Calendar pattern will be posted here on our blog pages.
The calendar will start on 1st December 2022 and part of the pattern will be added each day, with the final part and finishing instructions being given on 24th December.
The design has been kept simple so no matter how rushed you are preparing for Christmas this year, you can find 10 to 15 minutes a day to sit and relax with 2 to 4 rows of knitting. If you do wish to try the Advent Calendar, but are not confident, we have offered a free practice pattern here. By working a few rows a day this should give knitters more confidence to tackle a complex looking design and find out it is not as difficult as it appears.
The skirt is knitted flat on two needles and then sewn up, there is a small amount of shaping, but this is done on single colour rows between the pattern, so this should be within the abilities of most knitters from intermediate to experienced alike. Two colour knitting may look difficult, but if you follow the pattern exactly as it is written, this again should be within the abilities of most knitters. Due to time constraints this year, the pattern is NOT charted, but each row is written out in full. Charts may be added to the paid version in January 2023.
As another special Christmas offer, each day during Advent we will offer one (or two) of our patterns at a discounted price for 24 hours (at the end of the 24 hour offer period the price of the pattern will revert to its pre-discount price). The exception to this will be the offer on Day 1 which will remain half price throughout the 24 days of Advent before reverting to its pre-discount price.

One pair of 2.00 mm knitting needles, 50 metres No 10 crochet cotton in main colour, 30 metres No 10 crochet cotton in contrast colour. NOTE: For 1:12th scale use 1.00 mm knitting needles and 1-ply yarn (quantities of yarn required will be slightly less than for 1:6th scale)

PLEASE NOTE: Sizes are not given for 1:12th scale as this has not been test knitted, but if the materials shown above are used the 1:12th version will work out half the overall size of the 1:6th scale version.
NOTES – PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING PROJECT
1. Some yarns will need to be carried across the back of the work in order to work the next row, check pattern before starting row. This occurs when a single colour is worked.
2. To avoid extra bulk at seams, yarns NOT in use for a few rows are carried up the side of the work.
3. DO NOT carry yarn across more than 6 sts, or large loops will be formed on the back, which can cause distortion of the pattern.
4. DO NOT cut yarn unless told to do so in the pattern
If you have not tried colour work before then try one of our free patterns such as the Christmas cushion listed above
