Catherine recently sent us this photo of her latest completed miniature knitting project, a 1:12th scale ladies dressing jacket, knitted from our pattern. Catherine has kindly allowed us to share this photo on the Customer Gallery.
These dressing jackets (often called bedjackets) were designed to keep ladies upper bodies warm in the early part of the Twentieth Century, perhaps as they sat in bed reading or partaking of breakfast. Alternatively these jackets might be worn as they were dressing, as these were the days before central heating, so houses would be much colder than today. By the end of the 1930’s the bed jacket design was much more frilly or lacelike and had become more of a fashionable feminine accessory, than a functional garment to keep the body warm.
