When looking through the bookshelves at home the other day Frances came across a small battered green book tucked at the back of a shelf. It is not much larger than a hand, but has obviously been well read and loved enough to keep and pass down through the family.
On the flyleaf inside the book there is an inscription:
This Miss Sims was Frances’ great grandmother Alice who was aged 11 or 12 in 1882 when the book was presented. It was extremely interesting to see the fact that it was awarded as ‘2nd prize for Proficiency and Crochetwork’ and good to know that there is a definite link with the past and that a love of crochet still runs in the family. We are now wondering who won 1st prize!
