No doubt many people are wondering if an Advent Calendar will be happening this year, as there have usually been several posts on the blog pages by now. The answer is ‘Yes there will be’.
As in previous years there will be a new part of the pattern published each day during Advent, although the item is offered in the form of an Advent Calendar the theme of the knitting is winter based rather than religious, this hopefully allows everyone to join in the fun.
The pattern this year will be an item of clothing for an adult female doll. The item can be knitted in 1:6th scale (this will also fit Curvy Barbie dolls),1:12th scale or 1:24th scale. The design will include some colour work, but the majority of the design will be basic knitting. The item can also be knitted in one colour or you can just work part of the colour work pattern, if you are short of time or lacking confidence to knit all the colour work. The full design will be revealed on 1st December.
If you wish to participate you will need the following materials:
1:6th scale
One pair of size 14 (2.00 mm/US size 0) knitting needles, 135 metres/150 yds (allow slightly more if knitting in one colour) No 10 or No 12 crochet cotton in main colour, and 23 metres/25 yards contrast colour, 3 stitch holders or safety pins.
Note
This can be knitted in 1:12th or 1:24th scale, although I haven’t had time to do so.
For 1:12th scale use 1 mm needles and No 30 crochet cotton or size 25 flower thread.
For 1:24th scale use 0.50 mm needles and No 100 crochet cotton or good quality cotton sewing thread.
We suggest you choose strongly contrasting colours, or a light and much darker shade of the same colour, to give a good stitch definition.
If you don’t fancy the colour work then this can be knitted in one colour and still look good.
Full materials list, abbreviations used in pattern and measurements will be given in a post on 30th November 2024, you may wish to keep this alongside the daily parts of the pattern for future reference.
As usual this pattern will only be offered free from 1st December 2024 until 9.00 am 6th January 2025 (UK local time) after which it will be available as a paid pattern on Ravelry and LoveCrafts. So if you wish to knit it make sure you collect all the pattern parts as they are published.
Don’t forget if you complete this years calendar or have completed one from any previous year, and would like to share your photos here on the Customer Gallery, we would love you to send them to us (the email address is at bottom right of any page here on our blog)
