This is traditionally the last Sunday before the start of Advent and this year occurs on 23rd November.
Although Stir up Sunday was originally a religious occasion and takes its name from the prayer used at the start of the service on this day, it has developed into a day in which Christmas puddings are now traditionally made. Thus allowing them just enough time to mature before Christmas and to reinforce the idea of preparation for Advent.
Christmas puddings were traditionally boiled in bags, but are now more likely to be microwaved in a basin. Small silver coins and other Christmas pudding charms were often added to the pudding, but this is not common practice today, due to the dangers of choking on these small objects.
We have a crochet pattern for a 1:12th scale basin holder.
