Pattern for a shopping bag

A pattern to make a full size (non-miniature) shopping bag, which folds up into it’s pouch when not in use. The bag shown above is holding 6 tins of food a 1.5 kg bag of flour and 3 jars of food.

For intermediate crochet workers. (UK terms are used throughout although US equivalents are given for all terms). This pattern is in written format only.

Materials required: 2 x 50g balls No 12 crochet cotton (approx 550-570 metres/600-620 yards) If worked in two colours then 1 x 50g ball of each colour is required. Size 2.5 mm/US 1½ crochet hook.

Finished size:
8½-inches/21.25 cm diameter at base by 10-inches/20 cm high excluding handle, however the bag will stretch considerably when items of shopping are placed inside.

Gauge: 9 tr = 1-inch/2.5 cm and 3 rows of tr = 1-inch/2.5 cm
Rounds 1-3 = 1¾-inches/4 cm

The bag is worked in one piece, with no sewing up. The bag squashes into the pouch when not in use.
