UK terms used throughout

Abbreviations: st-stitch; ch-chain; dc-double crochet; tr-treble crochet; htr-half treble crochet; sp-space; sl-slip; ( ) or { } – repeat instructions between brackets as directed
American crochet terms: dc=single crochet, tr=double crochet; htr=half double crochet; miss-skip

Materials required: 0.40 mm crochet hook, small amount DMC 100 crochet cotton.
A larger hook can be used for example a 0.60 mm (US size 14 steel) but this will give a larger square.

Start at centre:

Ch 6, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Round 1: 3 ch [1st tr], 11 tr into ring, join with a sl st to top of 1st tr. (12 tr)

Round 2: 3 ch [1st tr], 1 tr into same st, 2 tr into next tr, 2 ch, miss next tr, {(2 tr into next tr) twice, 2 ch, miss next tr} three times, join with sl st to top of 1st tr.

Round 3: 3 ch [1st tr], 1 tr into next tr, 2 ch, (1 tr into next tr) twice, 2 ch, 1 tr into 2 ch sp of previous round, 2 ch, {(1 tr into next tr) twice, 2 ch, (1tr into next tr) twice, 2 ch, 1 tr into next 2 ch sp of previous round, 2 ch} three times, join with a sl st to top of 1st tr.

Round 4: 5 ch [1st tr, 2 ch], 1 tr into next tr, 2 ch, miss next 2 ch sp, (1 tr into next tr, 2 ch) twice, (1 tr into next sp, 2 ch) twice, {(1 tr next tr, ch 2) twice, miss next 2 ch sp, (1 tr into next tr, 2 ch) twice, (1 tr into next sp, 2 ch) twice} three times, join with a sl st to top of 1st tr.

Round 5: sl st into 1st ch sp, 1 dc into same sp, (3 ch, 1 dc into next sp) around, 1 ch, 1 htr into 1st dc to join.

Round 6: 1 dc into ch sp, 1 ch, (5 tr into next sp, 1 ch, 1 dc into next sp, 1 ch) to last sp, 5 tr into this sp, join with a sl st to top of 1st dc.

Fasten off and sew in all loose ends.
