The Chelsea Flower Show, known as the Great Spring show, is one of the best known horticulture shows and dates back to the 1862 RHS Great Spring Show held at Kensington. Prior to this the RHS held shows at its garden in Chiswick where poor transport links meant falling visitor numbers and the need for a better and more accessible venue. In 1888 the RHS moved the show again, this time to Temple Gardens, close to Fleet Street. The show remained at this site, growing in popularity as evidenced by the increasing number of marquees used to host the event. In 1912, Sir Henry Veitch acquired grounds at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea for a one-off show called the Royal International Horticultural Exhibition and the Temple Gardens show was cancelled for that year. It was such a popular event that the following year the Great Spring Show was moved there from Temple Gardens and this became the current venue.

This year the show will be held from 19th to 23rd May, though the first two days are restricted to RHS members only. As usual the show will show case the latest and best in garden design and will categorise gardens into show, urban and courtyard gardens.

The show is open 8am to 8pm except the final day with catering available on site. For those unable to attend in person live web cams and virtual tours will be available.

Whether or not you attend the Chelsea Flower show you can always add some flowers to your dolls house with one of the lovely flower kits we stock.
