Today sees the platinum wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip. They married 70 years ago in Westminster Abbey when Princess Elizabeth was 21 and Philip was 26. No other monarch has achieved such a milestone, but despite the significance of this anniversary it will pass with little public festivity. It is understood that the recent loss of friends of the couple, who now cannot share in the celebration, and a desire not to upstage the golden and diamond anniversaries will mean this is a low key private celebration by the royal family.
Nevertheless, we would like to extend our congratulations to the royal couple on such an auspicious occasion.
