Can I use thicker knitting yarns for dolls house knitting?

We know that there are quite a few people who wish to knit items in 1:12th scale, but for various reasons are unable to cope with the really fine yarns or needles. With this in mind we have decided to try some more experiments with 4-ply/fingering yarns, DK/8-ply and even Aran/10-ply yarns to see if these will work for miniatures.

Younger knitters might also be encouraged to try knitting these items too, for example our 1:12th scale modern bedroom set. The page also has more information on knitting with thicker yarns.

The set above was designed for a much more modern setting and has been successfully completed by several younger knitters.

We also offer a free pattern for you to try, which is a design for a 1:12th scale Ladies chunky jumper (shown at the top of the page). It is knitted using 2.00 mm knitting needles and 4-ply/Fingering yarn (great for using up oddments left from sock knitting). Note: The skirt shown in the photo was knitted using 1-ply yarn
