Due to possible postal strikes in the UK, we are giving advance warning of the materials required to complete the project. Remember, online outlets may also be affected and have longer delays than normal. With this in mind we have tried to keep the materials list to readily available items
The pattern this year will be a garment for an adult female doll in 1:6th scale, which may also be knitted in 1:12th scale. The SAME pattern will be used for both scales. This year the theme will be two colour knitting.
If you wish to take part you will require:
1:6th scale dolls garment:
one pair 2.00 mm knitting needles, 50 metres No 10 crochet cotton in main colour, 30 metres No 10 crochet cotton in contrast colour. For 1:12th scale use 1.00 mm knitting needles and 1-ply yarn (quantities of yarn required will be slightly less than for 1:6th scale, exact amounts are not known as this item has not been worked in 1:12th scale)
Note: Strongly contrasting colours will give a better finished result
As mentioned above, this years Advent calendar will feature two colours in the knitting. A free practice pattern which introduces using two colours, can be found here. This practice pattern does NOT have the actual stitch pattern as that used in the calendar, but the ability to work with two colours IS a requirement for the Advent Calendar.
The practice pattern, which can be worked using any size needles and yarn, can be made into a Christmas decoration or a dolls cushion. Hopefully this little pattern will help those who need it to practice or refresh the techniques required for this years Advent calendar.
Further updates for the Advent Calendar will be posted on 30th November, including the list of abbreviations used in the pattern.
