The Art Deco period in the dolls house

The Art Deco period lasted from about 1920 to about 1938-9. The Art Deco designs were based on stylised Geometric designs which were reflected in clothes, household items, china and the houses themselves.

We have tried to incorporate these Art Deco ideas in some of our miniatures.

The examples below come from our range of 1:12th scale Art Deco rug kits

This range will be expanded in the near future, meanwhile the current kits can be purchased from our web shop. All our designs are worked using French knots to produce a hooked rug appearance. This method is also very forgiving as any holes in the work make it look as though the rug is worn and mistakes do not always show. There is also the added bonus of not having to follow a chart or count stitches.

We also have a knitting pattern for a 1:12th scale Ladies Jumper from the early 1930’s

We have also designed numerous other miniature knitting patterns from this period.

Popular colours at this time were citrus colours-oranges and yellows, reds, browns, blues and greens. Cream or beige was often used as a background colour to set the design off.
